Slate floor Restoration Cheltenham
We were asked by one of our clients about slate floor restoration cheltenham and what could we do with her riven slate floor in her kitchen . Her issues were keeping it clean and looking good all year round, plus there was some serious lippage issues that were causing some concern as she had tripped over and stubbed her toes on the high areason a number of occasions.
We agreed that instead of replacing the lovely floor with something more practical would be quite expensive and time consuming , both of what she didn’t want as it was the kitchen and main entrance to the house, that we could remove the high spots of the tiles and then grind the slate flat with the grout lines.
This would be greatly beneficial for the cleaning and maintenance of the floor and also not a hazard as it was previously.
One of our team of floor restoration technicians arrived on site and quickly protected all the surrounding walls and kitchen units as the grinding and polishing process was going to be a messy one.
The high edges of the slate were removed by bolster and lump hammer, this is the best method to use to get rid of high lippage and not damage the diamond grinding equipment we use in conjunction with the levighetor.
We then used our levighetor grinding and polishing machine and made good progress flattening the slate to get it level with the grout lines.. the edges were flattened and polished by hand machines.
Once the slate was level and we were content with how it was progressing we then started to close up the slate by going up through the diamond polishing disks, every stage of this process removes the scratches from the previous and this is how polishing of any type of natural stone is achieved, obviously only with skill, knowledge and the correct equipment can this be achieved.
Once the floor had been polished to the required finish that was agreed with our client we washed down thoroughly and went about sealing the slate floor to give it that final piece of magic that was required to get it to the amazing floor that we guaranteed our client that we would achieve for her.
The transformation of this riven slate with bad lippage was beyond even my expectations.
The slate was brought to life in the most spectacular way possible, every tile had its own identity and the formation of each tile corresponded amazingly with the ones directly next to it.
This slate floor has been my favorite floor to date that we have restored and it will take a very special floor to conquer this slate floor in Cheltenham.
